1 September 2024: Mooro on Sheppey draw

31 August 2024: Sheppey United 1-1 Hanwell

The Geordies have to try again on Tuesday evening after just managing to gain a draw and a replay in their FA Cup 1st qualifying round tie on the Isle of Sheppey, on Saturday.

Hanwell made the journey to Kent to try and make it to the 2nd qualifying round, and in the first 15 minutes, looked as if they'd manage it comfortably, dominating possession and creating chances.

First chance fell to attacker Jordan Edwards, who forced a good save from Sheppey keeper Aiden Prall, before striker Alfie Pendlebury had a header which flew over the bar.

The Geordies continued to dominate but the home club managed to find their bearings and get back into the match with Hanwell keeper Sam Beasant having to make a smart save, and defender Cameron Rohart-Brown doing well to clear a dangerous chance away.

By half time, it had become an even contest, with both teams having chances and having spells of possession but neither able to claim they had the upper hand.

On the hour though, that all changed as Sheppey Utd's Daniel Carr managed to get his head to a bouncing ball in the Hanwell penalty area, and score past Beasant off the post.

This forced the Geordies to have to up their game, as memories of last season's mortifying FA Cup exit to a club two levels below began to surface in the minds of the travelling supporters, who also increased their noisy support, urging the players on.

There was just 5 minutes of the second half left, when Hanwell finally got their equaliser. Hanwell defender Dan Carr found some space down the Sheppey left, and fired in a teasing cross into the penalty area. Edwards timed his run perfectly to meet the ball at the back post and diverted the cross past Prall and into the net.

Despite another 5 minutes of additional time, neither side could get the winner, and so the clubs will meet again on Tuesday September 3rd for the replay.

After the match finished, manager Chris Moore felt "we'd got to grips with them at the start, before they had a spell on top, and then we ended the half back in control. In the second half, we were OK, never good, never bad, just OK and I still felt if there was going to be a winner, it would be us. "

"After they scored, that goal lifted the boys, and after a little change of shape and a couple of substitutions, we've come away with a draw at a place that's really tough to come."

"I'll looking at Monday's draw, but won't really be interested in it as we'll be focusing on the replay, and when you take your eye off them, that's how you end up losing games. I won't be doing that, and I won't let the lads do that either."

The replay kicks off at 7-45 at the Powerday Stadium, with the winners earning a place in the 2nd qualifying round, when the clubs from the National League South enter the competition.

27 August 2024: Chris Moore reflects on Marlow win

26 August 2024: Hanwell 2-0 Marlow

Hanwell continued their strong start to the season at home as they defeated newly promoted Marlow on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday afternoon at the Powerday Stadium.

Manager Chris Moore was forced into two changes to the side that started in south Wales, bringing in defender Harry Seabrook to replace Will Hall who suffered a hamstring injury, and Alfie Pendlebury returned to the striking role as Elliott Beynon had picked up a slight knock.

Hanwell had the first clear chance of the game, midfielder Mat McKenzie managing to direct his header on target and with Marlow keeper Aaron Watkins

beaten, it took a goal line clearance to stop the Geordies scoring first.

The game as pretty even as Marlow tried to impose themselves on the game, not having yet won so far this season, Brandon Curtis having the best chance with a free kick that was blocked by the defensive wall.

Just before half time, defender Elijah Oladunjoye came closest for the visitors with a shot that was deflected wide of the goal as the Geordies comfortably defended in a game that had seen very little for either side so far.

During the half time break, Chris Moore asked the team to raise their game and within 5 minutes of the restart, Hanwell had the lead.

Great work in the box by forward Jordan Edwards, following Pendlebury’s header, gave him enough space to strike a shot at goal and Watkins was unable to prevent it going into the back of the net.

Marlow were forced to try and take the game to the Geordies, and striker Jordi Ebanda pulled off an acrobatic attempt that keeper Sam Beasant had to throw himself to his left to grab hold of.

With some 20 minutes left in the game, attacking midfielder Kameron English thought he had the second goal as he clipped a shot past Watkins, but the referee’s assistant had deemed him offside just as he received the pass.

However, it wasn’t long before Hanwell did have that second goal. The Geordies forced a series of corners, with Marlow’s keeper Aaron Watkins having to punch the ball away on a couple of occasions, before Harry Seabrook found himself in the right place to slot the ball past the keeper following a scramble in the area.

That knocked the wind out of the Marlow players, and in the end, Hanwell comfortably held on to take a third win from their three home games so far.

Following the final whistle Chris Moore was clearly happy with the performance.

“Agreat way to finish the Bank Holiday, there’s a lot of tired legs out there after Saturday and today.

“At half time, I asked them to give another 20-30% as I thought we had enough in the tank to do so, and it came off with the early goal. Goals change games, and Jordan Edwards has got that in him, and that settled the boys down.

“Harry Seabrook deserved his goal and the man of the match, he’s been fantastic in training and now its his shirt to lose.

Hanwell take a break from league action as they enter the FA Cup, with a journey to Kent side Sheppey Utd in the 1st qualifying round on Saturday, with the usual 3pm kick off.

The club will also be broadcasting a live radio commentary of the game from the club website, hanwelltown.com, for those not able to get to the game.

25 August 2024: Mooro on Merthyr loss

24 August 2024: Merthyr Town 2-1 Hanwell

Following two good home victories, Hanwell made the long journey down to south Wales to face Merthyr Town but they were unable to bring home the points, despite defender Will Hall’s 1st goal of the season just before half time.

In a game that manager Chris Moore always called one of the toughest in the league, the Geordies started well against the Martyrs and matched the home side’s workrate as the teams exchanged chances on goal.

After keeper Sam Beasant had made a great early save from the dangerous Merthyr striker Ricardo Rees, Hanwell’s Elliott Beynon's curling attempt on goal was blocked by the Martyrs defence as the home side had work to keep the Geordies at bay.

A few minutes later, Beynon made contact with a loose ball in the 6 yard area, diverting it towards goal, but the Merthyr keeper Jaimie Cogman scrambled across to clear the ball off the goal-line.

Just before the half hour, Rees had another attempt from a narrow angle but Beasant blocked the shot down by his left hand post as the keeper showed his class.

It looked like it would be goalless at the half time break but Hanwell took the lead following forward Jordan Edwards’ corner into the penalty area. Merthyr couldn’t clear the ball as it bounced around loose, Will Hall then stabbed the ball towards goal, it rolling into the bottom corner.

The opening period of the second half saw Merthyr dominating play and possession, with the best chance falling to midfielder Lewys Twamley but his attempt from distance was always going wide.

Arguably the turning point in the second half was the substitution of Hall with what appeared to be a hamstring injury on 71 minutes, and as the Geordies tried to adapt and reset themselves through the introduction of Leo Donnellan, the home side took the game away from them, with two goals in 6 minutes.

First on 74 minutes, a Twamley cross into the penalty area was not dealt with by the Hanwell defence, it falling to midfielder Cole Jarvis who struck a fine shot past Beasant from close range.

Merthyr then increased the pressure on Hanwell, and in the end, the Geordies couldn’t quite manage to hold out, as another Twamley cross was met at the back post by Rees, who have slipped away from the covering defender to head the ball into the Hanwell net.

With just 5 minutes to go, Hanwell had a couple of great chances within a couple of seconds in a goalmouth scramble, the attempts from close range by substitute Nathanael Boayke striking the post both times before the ball was scrambled wide. In the end, it was all to nothing as the assistant referee had raised the flag for offside during the action.

In the seven minutes of added time, with Merthyr pressing, Rees was brought down in the penalty area and the referee had no hesitation on awarding the penalty. Rees himself stepped up to take the kick, but Beasant demonstrated his experience by diving correctly to his right to block it and denying Merthyr a third goal.

Post-match, manager Chris Moore, explained that “it was the ease of them getting the ball into the box from wide areas that was our worry today and in the end, that was our downfall, for the first goal at least, I’m sure.”

The Geordies will look to recover quickly as they will play Marlow on Bank Holiday Monday at the Powerday stadium, with a 3 pm kickoff.

1 Sam Beasant, 2 Dan Carr, 3 Cameron Rohart-Brown, 4 Callum Woodcock, 5 Dwayne Duncan, 6 Will Hall (Leo Donnelan 71'), 7 Kameron English (Rod Orlando-Young 88'), 8 Mat Mackenzie, 9 Elliot Beynon (Ezekiel Coker 90'), 10 Jordan Edwards (Nathanael Boayke 69'), 11 Chris Regis (Kyron Richards 85').

19 August 2024: Highlights of Hanwell 1-0 Swindon Supermarine

18 August 2024: Chris Moore speaks post Swindon win

17 August 2024: Hanwell 1-0 Swindon S

Hanwell Town recorded their second win of the season, following Tuesday's 3-1 win, with a sound and competent victory over Swindon Supermarine, thanks to Jordan Edwards’ first half strike that will very likely be a candidate for Goal of the Month within the Southern League.

The game itself was short on energy and both sides looked to be conserving energy in the sunshine, but for periods in the first half, the Geordies held the upper hand without being able to beat Supermarine keeper Luke Purnell.

In the warm August sunshine, the Geordies created the first clear chance on 15 minutes as Chris Regis fired in a powerful shot from fully 30 yards which left Purnell scurrying to get close to the attempt, it striking the outside of the post and going wide.

Not long afterwards, Regis had two further chances; the first forced the diving Purnell to paw the ball away, before a defender's block stopped another shot from the impressive midfielder preventing him from opening the Geordies scoring.

From the resulting corner, Hanwell defender Dwayne Duncan connected with the cross with a header but Purnell was equal to the task, pushing it wide.

Supermarine finally showed some threat, with tricky winger Liban Ibrahim connecting with winger Olly Mehew's cross just inside the Hanwell penalty area, but his attempt flew high over the bar.

In first half injury time the Geordies pushed forward, midfielder Callum Woodcock winning the ball, and despite pressure, he managed to make the pass to striker Alfie Pendlebury.

Pendlebury laid the ball back to the unmarked Jordan Edwards, who stroked a delightful curling shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area past the despairing Purnell.

Supermarine tried to come back in the second half, with striker Harry Williams finding space at the edge of the Hanwell penalty area to try a shot, but it went high and wide.

Just before the hour, Pendlebury managed to break the Supermarine defensive line, and created a one-on-one with Purnell, but the keeper managed to get his body in the way to block the shot.

The game then drifted until the final ten minutes when Supermarine substitute Gabriel Reivers forced a save from debutant keeper Dion-Curtis Henry, but the Geordies had the last word as midfielder Mat MacKenzie managed to hit a shot on goal as he lost his balance, but Purnell get a hand to the attempt and tip it round the corner.

Speaking after the match, Hanwell manager Chris Moore expressed his satisfaction with the performance.

“A gritty team performance, but we ground out the 1-0 win and it’s been good to get six points this week. We conceded a lot of points after taking the lead last season, so to not look like conceding was fantastic today.

“To be honest, I thought Jordan Edwards should have scored earlier, and told him so. But he shot from the edge of the area into the top corner, and he meant it. He's got that little bit of quality that we've been lacking in the past and he's come up with the goods today with a quality finish."

The Geordies now look forward to the Bank Holiday weekend, with games on Saturday and Monday.

Saturday sees them make a long journey west, travelling to South Wales to face Merthyr Town at Penydarren Park, before returning to the Powerday Stadium to face Marlow on the Monday, kicking off at 3pm.

15 August 2024: Highlights of Hanwell 3-1 Bracknell

14 August 2024: Chris Moore speaks post Bracknell triumph

13 August 2024: Hanwell 3-1 Bracknell

After a false start against Wimborne in the season opener on Saturday, goals from Alfie Pendlebury, Mat Mackenzie and Chris Regis gave Hanwell a richly deserved 3-1 win over Bracknell Town.

The Geordies made a bright start and put the visitors under pressure in the early stages and took the lead on 15 minutes. Chris Regis nipped in down the right flank before finding Jordan Edwards on the edge of the box. The summer signing from Chesham played in Alfie Pendlebury to fire the ball home and give the Geordies the lead.

The goal woke Bracknell up and Sam Beasant made an unbelievable save to deny Jordan Esprit, tipping his header onto the bar, before Dan Roberts somehow found the car park behind the stadium from five yards out when it seemed easier to score with the goal gaping.

However, Bracknell were level shortly before half-time as Grant Evans headed home from a ball in from the left flank.

Chris Moore rallied his Geordies at half-time and they were probing the Bracknell defence again in the second half. The pressure told as Mackenzie fired home from the edge of the edge of the area as Bracknell failed to clear their lines.

Holding onto leads was Hanwell's Achilles heel last season but they were resolute in defence and sealed all three points from a counter attack superbly finished off by Chris Regis to spark jubilant celebrations amongst the home support.

11 August 2024: Chris Moore speaks post Wimborne defeat

10 August 2024: Wimborne Town 1-0 Hanwell

Hanwell Town opened their Southern League Premier South season with a trip to newly promoted Dorset club Wimborne Town, but the Geordies had to return home empty handed as they went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat, courtesy of a 68th minute Cameron Munn goal for the home club.

The first half was tentative from both teams, with neither forcing a save from their respective keepers.

Just before the half time break, Wimborne's striker Will Fletcher found himself in some space at the edge of the penalty area, firing in a shot which was only just over the crossbar, much to Hanwell keeper Sam Beasant's relief.

The second half began in much the same fashion, but as the minutes passed, the game slowly became more open, and chances began to appear.

The home supporters thought they had finally taken the lead on 58 minutes when Wimborne's Matt Burrows tapped home from close range, but the referee’s assistant had flagged for offside, meaning the goal did not count.

Hanwell immediately countered, defender Dwayne Duncan forcing a good save from home keeper Ross Flitney with a close range header.

It wasn't very long before the Geordies were having to defend the home team's attacks for substantial periods, and on 68 minutes, the Magpies found a way through.

Burrows had taken the ball past defender Kyron Richards and cut the ball back to midfielder Samuel Jackson, firing in a low shot. Beasant saved, but the rebound fell to Munn who had the simple task of hitting the ball into the net.

Hanwell had to reorganise not long after following an injury to Callum Woodcock, which necessitated the attendance of both club’s physios to deal with a nasty cut to the head. Woodcock was able to make his way off under his own power, the cut subsequently requiring 4 stitches.

Stung by the goal, Hanwell roused themselves and came back into game strongly and created chances for midfielder Dan Carr, and then Richards but to no luck.

Just before the end, midfielder Mat McKenzie had another chance for Hanwell, but the home side managed to clear the ball off the goal line to deny the Geordies an equaliser and a point.

Speaking after the game, manager Chris Moore stated, “The game was good in patches, and also not very good in patches, and for the goal, too many were flat-footed.

“We made a couple of substitutions and we looked like we’re getting back into the game, but just two or three players were off it, and at this level, when you’re like that, you’re going to find the afternoon tough.

“Yet there's players who were substitutes today who gave themselves a good shout of playing in the next game by their performances, so we'll dust ourselves down and regroup for that game.”

Hanwell Town now return home to the Powerday Stadium for two home games, facing Bracknell Town this coming Tuesday, August 13th, with a 7-45pm kick off, before hosting Swindon Supermarine on Saturday August 17th, at 3pm.

9 August 2024: Hanwell add two more

Hanwell have completed a double signing as Chris Moore adds reinforcements ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Kyron Richards joins the club after impressing at Hanworth Villa last season and also on a trial during pre-season.

Chris Moore said: “Kyron Richards was someone who caught my eye at Hanworth last season, he’s come in on trial and really caught the eye with some impressive displays. Thanks must go to Non League Chance with this signing”

The Geordies have also strengthened in attack with the addition of Jordan Edwards, who has joined the club from last season's champions Chesham.

Edwards bagged nine goals in the Southern League last season, although it would have been 11 had his brace against Hanwell not been chalked off after a torrential downpour caused the game to be abandoned.

Moore added: “Jordan won our league last season at Chesham and as soon as he became available I jumped at the chance to get him. Some Geordie fans will remember his 2 goals against us in the rained off fixture in the game against us at the start of last season. I’m looking forward to working with him this season!”

4 August 2024: Chris Moore speaks post Slough defeat

3 August 2024: Hanwell 1-3 Slough Town

Hanwell's final pre-season game ended in defeat as former Geordies' favourite Sam Evans bagged a brace for Slough Town.

The frontman found time and space twice in the first five minutes to give the Rebels a 2-0 cushion early on.

The first half was a lively affair and Hanwell felt aggrieved they weren't given a chance to pull one back from the penalty spot as Ezekiel Coker felt he was brought down in the box twice in quick succession.

The Geordies did pull a goal back, though, early in the second half as Dan Carr lashed home 10 minutes into the second half after being played in by Matt McKenzie.

However, hopes of an equaliser were dashed as Gary Abisogun netted nine minutes later to give the Step Two side victory.

All the focus will now be on the season opener at newly-promoted Wimborne.
