Plymouth Parkway 0-2 Hanwell Town

Dan Carr’s first half brace made Hanwell’s 400+ mile round trip to Plymouth Parkway on a Tuesday night one to remember.

The Geordies’ strong November had given way to a difficult December with only one win in the previous nine games but, once they took the lead, they never looked like losing.

A cagey opening period allowed Hanwell to settle into their work with Roberto Nditi’s shot being blocked. The hosts had two chances but Tom Dean’s header went wide and Ryan Brett had a shot from range drift well wide of Sam Beasant’s goal.

Hanwell grabbed the lead on 27 minutes as Carr took advantage of a missed header to control and lash a shot past Luke McCormick via a deflection off Dean.

The goal lifted the Geordies and they set about hunting for a second to give them a cushion. Nditi saw another shot blocked after some fine hold up play from Jordan Edwards.

Edwards, Hanwell’s top scorer this season, then rattled the crossbar after Alfie Pendlebury’s fine run and cut back.

With three minutes to go before half-time, Carr had his second brace of the season following his double at Poole in November, rifling a shot home off the post.

Hanwell would have expected a Plymouth rally in the second half but the Geordies stifled them at any opportunity.

Indeed, Chris Moore’s side had the better chances with Nditi forcing a save from McCormick twice with Joseph Waight firing over with the goal at his mercy.

The final whistle was greeted with aplomb from the travelling Geordies with the players going over to thank the fans who made the long trip to Devon with them.

Hanwell are back on the road on Saturday making the, relatively, short trip to Basingstoke Town.
