Hanwell Town recorded an excellent 3-0 win over playoff chasing Dorchester Town on a chilly Tuesday (4 March, 2025) evening at The Powerday Stadium.
Goals just before halftime from Roberto Nditi and new signing Ryan Cole set The Geordies on their way before a late strike from Joe Waight put an exclamation point on the victory.
Hanwell came into the game winless in five league matches and fresh off conceding in the final minute to let a two-goal lead slip to relegation threatened Poole Town. The Geordies poor form had seen that slip closer to the drop zone themselves.
Manager Chris Moore got the response he was looking for with a fantastic all round performance against a Dorchester side unbeaten in 19 league games before travelling to London.
The first chance of the game fell in the eighth minute, a big scramble in the visitors box fell to Mat Mackenzie but his shot was well blocked by the Dorchester defence.
Two minutes later, Mackenzie had another chance after a lovely through ball from Waight. This time he was stopped by a last-ditch challenge by a visiting defender.
The Geordies continued their dominance in the 22nd minute. A lovely bit of play from Cole, who recently joined on loan from Wycombe Wanderers, freed the young attacker and he forced a good save out of Harrison Lee.
Six minutes before the break, a brilliant cross field ball from Waight found Nditi on the right. The wing-back drove through on goal and found the net from inside the box.
Three minutes later, Hanwell doubled their lead. Dan Carr made progress down the left and delivered an accurate cross into the box. Cole rose highest at the front post to glance the ball into the far corner and score his first goal for The Geordies.
Dorchester looked to respond after the break. Shaquille Gwengwe found himself one on one with Sam Beasant. However, the Dorchester man couldn’t get a shot away and the Hanwell goalkeeper collected the ball.
In the 53rdminute, Waight used his skill to advance into the box from the right and fire a curling shot at goal. Lee did well to get down and push the shot away from danger.
Four minutes later, Dwayne Duncan was left with his head in his hands when his powerful header was blocked off the line. A third goals would’ve surely sealed the game for The Geordies.
Dorchester kept going and Beasant was forced to save a powerful shot from outside the area by Corby Moore. The veteran goalkeeper was called into action once again when a strike from Wayne Robinson required his attention.
The Geordies stood firm despite increased Dorchester pressure and a back five of Nditi, Carr, Harry Seabrook, Dwayne Duncan, and Will Hall earnt a much-needed clean sheet.
Hanwell’s attack wasn’t finished either. Nditi drove dangerously down the right and was given all the time in the world to pick out Waight in the box. The popular striker fired home to cap off a wonderful team performance.
The Geordies' win was their first in the league at The Powerday Stadium since August. Despite this barren run, which included eight draws and five defeats, Hanwell sit 10th in the Southern Premier League South. On Saturday, they welcome Walton & Hersham to London in the last of three straight home games.
