Hanwell Town 2-1 Plymouth Parkway

Hanwell Town secured the highest ever finish in their history by defeating Plymouth Parkway under the west London sunshine.

A quiet opening quarter was broken by Parkway snatching a lead, as Matt Wright was able to prod the ball home after a looping cross in to the box was missed by everyone and Wright converted from close range.

Hanwell then countered immediately, and Parkway keeper Alex Rutter had to stand tall to tip over Kam English’s shot from just inside the penalty area.

The Geordies came out the better in the second half and slowly got back into the game, but it took a well taken finish to bring Hanwell back onto level terms.

A cross came in from a right hand side free kick, and the clearance was met by Dan Carr, who struck a clean volley right into the top corner from distance, the crowd ecstatically rising to acclaim a quality finish.

Ten minutes later, the Geordies took the lead with another quality finish; Carr pulled the ball back to the edge of the penalty area to find Joe Wilson, who struck a low finish past Rutter.

With moments to go, Hanwell’s Joe Waight looked to have extended the home team’s lead from close range, converting a Joe Wilson cross, but the assistant’s flag ruled it out for offside.
