Hanwell overcame a sluggish start to pick up a deserved point against Devon club Tiverton Town, thanks to a debut goal from new signing Joe Waight.
The Geordies took a while to get going in their first match since New Years Day and Tiverton immediately looked the more threatening, with Joe Parker asking questions that the Hanwell defence struggled to deal with, forcing an early save from keeper Sam Beasant.
Hanwell were just starting to get themselves into the game, when after about 15 minutes, they had a great chance to take the lead. Debutant Joe Waight's shot was blocked by Tiverton keeper Joe Duncan, the rebound falling to Rod Orlando-Young, whose shot from close range went wide when it would have been easier to score.
The Geordies were made to pay for that miss, when a far post cross from a wide free kick was met at the back post by Asa Hall, his header back across goal being turned in at close range by skipper Matt Britton.
Hanwell then started to create chances but Tiverton responded with chances of their own before the home side equalised just before the break.
Joe Waight latched onto a quick through ball, taking it to the edge of the penalty area before clinically slotting the shot past Duncan.
The Devon side opened the quicker in the second half with the busy Parker still making life difficult for the home, side, his shot just after the restart forcing a good save from Beasant.
The game then became a lot tighter with Tiverton creating further opportunities through Marcus Day and Hall, before Dan Carr forced a great save from keeper Duncan, his curling shot from distance looking on target for the top corner.
In the end, despite late Hanwell pressure, and Waight firing another chance over the bar, they couldn’t break the stubborn Tiverton and the Geordies had to settle for the point.
