Hanwell Town advanced to their second semi-final of the season with a 1-0 win over Tooting & Micham United on Tuesday (25 March 2025) night.
A late goal from Dwayne Duncan meant The Geordies could breathe a sigh of relief after a frustrating game against a team two division below them.
Manager Chris Moore made eight changes from the side that beat AFC Totton 1-0 on Saturday.
Goal scorer Giovanni McGregor made his first start for the club, Trent Carter-Rogers returned in goal to give Sam Beasant a rest, and youngsters Ezekiel Coker and Nathan Boayke were given a chance to impress.
After a uneventful first 10 minutes, a free kick from the left from Joe Wilson was flicked on by Duncan at the front post. A game of volleyball then occurred in the Tooting penalty area before the away side eventually cleared.
Hanwell had the ball in the net in the 12th minute. Wilson crossed from the right and the young striker finished calmly at the back post. Unfortunately for the home side, the referee saw something he disagreed with in the build up and the goal was disallowed.
Wilson was back to his creative ways against four minutes later. His corner from the right was glanced wide by Chaynie Burgin.
Tooting had their first chance in the 19th minute. A loose pass forced Roberto Nditi to jump to the rescue to block Max Oldham’s shot from just inside the box.
Carter-Rogers was called into action in the 28th minute. A quick counter attack saw the goalkeeper have rush out and claim the ball before Alex Cruickshank could open the scoring.
Two minutes later, Giovanni McGregor found space on the left of the box. Unfortunately his shot lacked the power to trouble Toby McKimm.
Tooting almost took the lead in the 35th minute. A quick attack found Hussein Siklawi on the edge of the box and Carter-Rogers did brilliantly to turn the curling effort around the post.
Three minutes before halftime, McGregor drove through the midfield with speed. His right footed shot from the edge of the area was parried away from danger by McKimm.
There was a clear warning sign to Tooting just after halftime. Wilson’s free kick from the right was headed over by eventual goal scorer Duncan.
Wilson was back to his creative self to start the second half. The wing-back drove down the right on two occasions. His first effort to find an attacker was blocked before his second was poked wide by Coker.
After a raft of second half changes, The Geordies began to push for a winner. Cameron Rohart-Brown’s cross was knocked across goal by Mat Mackenzie but punched away by Mckimm before Alfie Pendlebury could pounce.
With the game looking destined for a penalty shootout, Wilson gave his team once last chance to win it at the death.
A lovely inswinging corner from the right was contested by at least a quarter of the players on the pitch. Duncan rose highest and nodded home to seal Hanwell’s place in the Semi-Final of the London Senior Cup.
On Saturday, The Geordies return to league action when they take on Sholing away from home.
