Chertsey Town 0-2 Hanwell Town

Hanwell concluded their travels within the Southern League Premier South with a comfortable victory at Chertsey on Bank Holiday Monday, extending their best ever season to new heights.

The Geordies got off to a sound start and they weren't long in taking the lead. A corner from Dan Carr evaded everyone, except the late arriving Will Hall, who bundled it home from close range.

Chertsey still needed points to be absolutely safe from relegation, and started to push forward with McCoy managing to connect with a cross, but his header was over the bar, not threatening Sam Beasant's goal.

Manager Chris Moore had brought in Kameron English to try and exploit a perceived lack of pace in the Chertsey defence and just before the half hour, it almost paid off. English broke through the defensive line but his shot was pushed wide by Chertsey keeper Josh Strizovic. From the resulting corner, Eliott Benyon reacted quickest to glance the ball into the back of the net.

After half time, Chertsey started to gain the upper hand, and once again, McCoy was closest with a shot that Beasant pushed wide of the post.

Hanwell were by now looking comfortable, and Chertsey’s task got harder as Louis Birch was dismissed for a second yellow card just before the hour.

Inside the final 15 minutes, and the home side were still fighting, with Luke Robertson coming closest but in the end, Hanwell earned a very good 3 points away from home, confirming a top 10 finish within the Southern League Premier South.

Chris Moore was content with the result, saying post match, “We were excellent from start to finish today. Yet we could have had more goals, there were at least another 3 or 4 one on ones. If you said to me before the game, that we'd going to come to Chertsey Town and win two-nil, I'd have taken your hand off, after they'd beaten us twice this season.”

Hanwell finish their best ever season with a final home game, against Plymouth Parkway on Saturday 26thApril, afterwards there will be the club’s End of Season Awards in the clubhouse, with tickets being available on line on the club's website.
