Hanwell were minutes away from a vital away win at Swindon Supermarine when a 90th minute Harry Seabrook own goal forced the Geordies to take a share of the spoils.
Chris Moore’s side rallied after going behind to a second minute Ioan Richards goal with Jordan Edwards’ brace, including a sublime free kick, sending Hanwell into a 2-1 half-time advantage.
The Geordies had chances to make the game safe and were, ultimately, made to pay when a hopeful ball in towards the box was turned past Sam Beasant by the unfortunate Seabrook.
Moore made two changes from the side that had lost 2-1 at home to Chertsey two days earlier with Roberto Nditi making his Geordies debut at the expense of the injured Mat MacKenzie, while Rod Orlando-Young came in for the injured Kameron English. The changes allowed Emmerson Sutton, on his 18th birthday, to play in a more advanced role.
Hanwell, though, fell behind early on as they failed to deal with a second minute corner and Richards bundled the ball home after it had cannoned back off the post.
The goal woke the Geordies up and they were back on level terms after just 10 minutes as, from a corner of their own, Edwards stabbed the ball home, running away to high five the jubilant travelling supporters.
Sutton nearly had a goal to cherish on his birthday but dragged his shot wide and Orlando-Young scuffed his effort when well placed.
It took a moment of class, though, for Hanwell to take a deserved lead. After Richards conceded a free kick right on the edge of the area for a scything challenge on Alfie Pendlebury, Edwards stepped up and found the top corner for his second free-kick goal of the season, following up his effort at Taunton in September.
Swindon came out fighting in the second half and Beasant made an early save to keep the Geordies in front.
The Geordies were probing but were unable to get the final ball and shot into the box to create the opportunity.
As the minutes ticked by, Hanwell sat deeper and deeper as Supermarine started pumping the ball forward in a bid to get an equaliser. When they did breach the defence, Beasant was on hand to save the Geordies.
However, there was a sting in the tail as Seabrook looked to see a tame high ball into the box back to Beasant, unfortunately beat him to give Swindon an equaliser they had threatened.
The Geordies looked to carve out a late winner but it was not to be and they made the relatively short trip back down the M4 with a point rather than three. On New Year’s Day, Hanwell make the short trip to Marlow before hosting Wimborne on 4 January.
Hanwell: Beasant, Nditi (Regis 67), Carr, Woodcock, Duncan, Seabrook, Sutton, Miles, Pendlebury, Edwards, Orlando-Young (Boakye 82).
Subs (not used): Benyon, Hall, Coker.
Hanwell’s difficult run of form continued as Chertsey came from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win at the Powerday Stadium on Boxing Day.
Jordan Edwards had fired the Geordies into a half-time lead after superb control from Alfie Pendlebury. However, scrappy goals from Jack Mazzone shortly after half-time and Dan Rowe 20 minutes later gave the Curfews the points.
Hanwell were looking to recover from Friday night’s 4-1 defeat in Sandhurst to Bracknell Town and the opening exchanges were cagey as players ran off their Christmas dinners.
The Geordies took the lead as Kameron English nipped in to win the ball at the expense of advancing Chertsey keeper Joshua Strizovic. The ball went back to Alfie Pendlebury who controlled the ball and selflessly laid the ball off to Edwards who tucked the ball home.
Emmerson Sutton had a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0 but Strizovic atoned for his earlier error by rushing out to block the on-loan QPR youngster’s shot.
Mat MacKenzie’s shoulder woes came back once again after he made a strong clearance and he was forced off at half-time.
Hanwell were made to pay for that miss as they failed to deal with a ball across the box and Mazzone was on hand to tap home three minutes into the second half with the visitors’ first clear opening.
The goal knocked the stuffing out of the Geordies as they tried to reclaim the lead but it was Chertsey who got that vital second goal as Rowe tapped home from close range.
Hanwell threw the kitchen sink at the Curfews and Pendlebury’s goal was ruled out for offside as their winless run continued. English was forced off with a muscular injury as he battled manfully to help his team.
The Geordies are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Swindon Supermarine.
Hanwell: Beasant, Sutton, Carr, Woodcock (Orlando-Young 90), Duncan, Seabrook, Miles (Boakye 86), MacKenzie (Regis HT), Pendlebury (Benyon 86), Edwards, English (Coker 76).
Hanwell had a night to forget in Sandhurst as a late collapse saw Bracknell Town take all three points.
Jordan Edwards’ 64th minute penalty had cancelled out Josh Boorn’s strike just minutes prior to give the Geordies a springboard where they could win the game.
But a horror two minutes saw Gabe George and Haydon Vaughan capitalise on defensive errors to give the Robins a 3-1 lead and the latter found the net again in stoppage time from the halfway line with Sam Beasant stranded.
Hanwell were looking to get their Christmas period off to a good start but Beasant had to make an early save but Edwards, two minutes later fired over the bar to rattle the hosts.
The subsequent exchanges were tamer with Beasant making a good save from Jack Matton before tipping George Knight’s strike over the bar.
Hanwell rallied and Dwayne Duncan headed just wide on 35 minutes before Kam English forced a save from Michael Eacott as the first half finished goalless.
Bracknell took the lead on the hour mark as Boorn found space at the edge of the area to fire his shot across Beasant and into the net.
It didn’t take long for Hanwell to rally and they had a glorious chance to equalise after a handball in the Robins’ penalty area. Edwards stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot.
However, the Geordies were masters of their own downfall as Matton was given the freedom of the midfield to pick out George whose effort beat Beasant fand found the net with 15 minutes remaining. Seconds later, a tame back pass from Duncan fed Vaughan who lobbed Beasant to make it three.
The Geordies threw bodies forward and with Beasant essentially playing in a holding midfield position there was always a danger of a breakaway goal. And that happened when Vaughan won the ball back and fired over Beasant and into the net from the halfway line.
Hanwell have a chance to right the wrongs of Friday night’s loss when they take on Chertsey Town on Boxing Day in a rematch of the FA Cup second qualifying round and, with happier memories for Geordies fans, the 2022 Play-Off final where Chris Moore’s side won promotion to the Southern League.
Hanwell: Beasant, Sutton, Carr, Woodcock, Duncan (Boakye 82), Seabrook, Regis (Miles 82), Mackenzie, Pendlebury (Benyon 77), Edwards, English (Coker 50).

Hanwell Town were held to a 0-0 draw by Gosport Borough at The Powerday Stadium on Saturday (December 15). The Geordies were looking to build on their performance from a heartbreaking FA Trophy defeat to Eastleigh on Tuesday night.
Star player Jordan Edwards returned to the bench after missing the Eastleigh game and Rudi Pache and Elliot Benyon started in place of Joe Wilson and Alfie Pendlebury.
In a tightly contested affair, Hanwell had the better of the second-half chances will feel they should’ve won the game late on.
The visitors aimed to start quickly when Sammuel Faniyan played through Asher Yearwood. One on one with Sam Beasant, the Gosport attacker could only fire his shot straight at the Hanwell goalkeeper.
Gosport did have a first half penalty appeal turned down when Jamar Smith fell to the ground under pressure from Rudi Pache, but the referee was unmoved.
Kameron English saw his powerful long range effort fly over the bar. This was a demonstration of the lack of quality chances being created by either team.
The second half was a lot better from a Hanwell perspective, Chris Regis saw his 48th minute shot saved after good linkup play with Dan Carr.
Mat Mackenzie tried his luck from range and his shot came closer than English’s effort but still didn’t test goalkeeper Adam Parkes.
A poor clearance from Beasant set up Daniel Wooden for a golden opportunity, but the Gosport striker’s shot was blocked by Calum Woodcock.
On the 60th minute, English was active once again. His trickery earnt him some hard-to-come-by space on the left and his cross was begging for a Hanwell player to tap it home.
Gosport had another shout for a penalty turned down when Faniyan tried to round Beasant when through on goal. The attacker went to ground and was booked for diving, a relief for Hanwell after the controversial penalty they conceded in similar fashion against Eastleigh last time out.
The Geordies hit the bar in the 68th minute when Mackenzie’s shot was deflected and looped goalwards.
Substitute Rod Orlando-Young came closest to opening the scoring when his close-range effort whistled wide in stoppage time.
After going eight games unbeaten, The Geordies are now four games without a win. A cause of this injuries with Hanwell missing many key players over the last few weeks.
The draw sees Hanwell drop to 12th in the league. On Friday, they travel to Bracknell in their final game before Christmas.
Hanwell Town’s record-breaking run in the Isuzu FA Trophy came to a heartbreaking end as they lost 2-1 to Eastleigh at The Powerday Stadium on Tuesday (December 10).
Joe Wilson’s 29thminute wonder goal had the Geordies dreaming of an upset. However, Eastleigh kept themselves in the game despite not playing well and equalised just before the hour mark through Scott Quigley.
Then, with three minutes to go, the visitors were awarded a controversial penalty. Chris Maguire, who made over 100 appearances for Sunderland, made no mistake from the spot and left Hanwell disappointed with the result but proud of their performance.
The game started at a high tempo with both teams eager to get the opening goal of the FA Trophy Third Round clash. Mat Mackenzie almost sent a lively Hanwell crowd into raptures when his long-range volley hit the bar.
Eastleigh had their first opportunity of the game when Alex Stepien-Lwumene broke free down the left. His shot from the left corner of the box was well saved by Sam Beasant.
A few minutes later, Tyrese Shade turned quickly on the edge of the box and fired the ball off the left post.
Hanwell had their opener in the 29thminute. A Hanwell long throw wasn’t cleared properly by Eastleigh and fell to Joe Wilson on about 25 yards from goal. The full-back smashed the ball into the top right corner to create a party-like atmosphere in the Ray Duffy Stand.
The Geordies managed to resist any Eastleigh pressure and went into the half-time break on track to cause an FA Trophy upset.
In the 50th minute, Hanwell almost doubled their lead when Ezekiel Coker was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. Dan Carr’s resulting free kick was just wide to the of the left post.
Some good play from the visitors ended with Scott Quigley clean through on goal. Beasant managed to get a hand on the forward’s shot, but it still trickled into the back of the net to bring the scores level.
Hanwell then dug deep and, despite conceding most of the possession, stopped their higher-tiered opposition from having many chances to take the lead.
In the 87th minute, substitute Jai Semenyo drove into the Hanwell box and pushed the ball passed Beasant. The Geordies goalkeeper was judged to have tripped the Eastleigh forward and the visitors were given a chance to win the tie from the spot.
The experienced Maguire made no mistake, firing his penalty into the left corner to give Eastleigh the lead. Hanwell came very close to equalising late on but Kameron English’s low driven shot was just wide.
Despite the loss, Chris Moore will be proud of his side’s performances in this season’s FA Trophy. The Geordies will look to carry their encouraging performance into this weekend’s league clash with Gosport Borough.

Hanwell will take on Hayes & Yeading in the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday 28 January 2025.
Hanwell Town suffered their first defeat in eight games with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Frome Town at The Powerday Stadium on Tuesday.
Two first half goals from James Ollis in the space of three minutes saw Hanwell go in at the break needing a miraculous turnaround to save their unbeaten steak.
Despite two half time changes, the Geordies were unable to create anything to test Frome goalkeeper Kyle Phillips.
Hanwell came into the game looking to return to winning ways against the side bottom of the Southern Premier League South.
The game started without any chances of note. Hanwell had most of the possession but seemed happy to pass the ball around defence.
In the 20th minute, some good play around the box by Hanwell resulted in Calum Woodcock’s cross being caught by Phillps. Frome then broke and Carter-Rogers had to make a good save to deny Ollis.
16 minutes later, some good combination play between Archie Ferris and Ethan Vaughn on the edge of the box resulted in a low cross being fired across the goal. Ollis was left unmarked at the back post and tapped home to give the visitors the lead.
Hanwell didn’t respond well to going behind and Frome doubled their lead two minutes later. The visitors again found space on the left and the ball was pulled back by Ollis, who added his second of the game.
Manager Chris Moore made two changes at the start of the second half. Alfie Pendlebury and Aderi Dede were taken off with Elliot Benyon and Ezekiel Coker introduced.
Coker had an opportunity to reduce the deficit in the 49th minute. Taylor Miles put in a great cross from the left, however the striker could not direct his header on target.
Hanwell continued their push forward in the 52nd minute. Chris Regis tried his luck from outside the box that Phillips had to push away from his bottom left corner.
Three minutes later, the Geordies hit the post. Carr found Coker on the left of the penalty area. The striker turned and fired an effort towards goal that rebounded off the left post and out of play.
In the 65th minute, Ollis had the opportunity to get his hat-trick. A long ball from midfield sent him through on goal with Hanwell failing to play an offside trap. However, the striker dragged his shot from the right of the box wide.
The rest of the game fizzled out, with Trent Carter-Rogers the busier of the two goalkeepers. Hanwell were left to rue a missed opportunity to climb up the table.
The result sees the Geordies remain 10thin the league, a win would’ve put them seventh. On Saturday, Hanwell welcome National League Eastleigh to The Powerday Stadium in a massive clash in the FA Trophy.
