Hanwell returned from the Dorset coast with a point in their pocket after an attritional 0-0 draw atWeymouth.
The Geordies, on a high after progressing in the FA Cup on Tuesday, were on the hunt for their first away win of the season. The Terras, on the other hand, are in transition after the departures of their chairman, Paul Maitland, and replacing manager Warren Feeney with Steve Claridge while they suffered an embarrassing FA Cup exit to Tadley Calleva.
With that in mind, the home side set out to stifle Hanwell and hit the Geordies on the break. It was a tactic often seen in recent times at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium where visiting teams arrive happy to return with a share of the spoils. The factWeymouthwere at home was a bigger compliment to Hanwell, showing how far the west Londoners have come in the past three seasons.
Chances were few and far between and, in the first half, neither keeper had a meaningful save to make. Hanwell had a number of throw ins in an advanced position but their final pass was repeatedly cut out by the home defence.
At the other end, Sam Beasant had a number of crosses to claim and it was a regulation first half for the Geordies number one and the defence in front of him.
The second half was similar to the first, although Hanwell came closest when Alfie Pendlebury's shot was blocked. As the Geordies hunted a winner,Weymouthstarted to look more dangerous on the counter attack with Roberto Nditi making a fantastic challenge to stifle a breakaway in the dying moments.
However, neither side really did enough to walk away with all three points and the referee's final whistle ensured the points were shared.
Hanwell are back in action on Tuesday night when they entertain Chertsey Town.
