Hungerford Town 1-5 Hanwell Town

Hanwell Town returned to form in remarkable fashion on Tuesday evening, delivering an excellent second-half performance to come from behind against HungerfordTown and post a statement 5-1 victory.

Without a win in their last five league matches, goals from Jordy Mongoy (2), Callum Woodcock, Gianni Crichlow and Ryan Cole saw the Geordies resoundingly beat a Hungerford team that – before kick-off – sat seven places above them in the Southern League Premier South.

On a beautiful autumnal evening at Hungerford’s Bulpit Lane, the home side certainly had the better of the opening exchanges and were well worth their James Ollis opener on 13 minutes - Ollis brilliantly lobbing Hanwell keeper, Sam Beasant, from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Hanwell responded well to going behind though. Jordy Mongoy had a goal ruled out for offside and saw a shot go just wide, but eventually pulled the visitors deservedly level with a good finish in the 23rdminute.

Driven by the fantastic Harry Hoath at centre-back, Hanwell played well for the rest of the first half and were unlucky to not be ahead at half-time. But the best was still to come from the Geordies, with the second half playing witness to Hanwell’s performance of the season so far.

The floodgates opened in the 55thminute when a Dan Carr corner found Callum Woodcock for a close-range header.

New signing, Gianni Critchlow, then made it 3-1 after he beat two Hungerford defenders and executed with a cool finish on 74 minutes. Three minutes later, Jordy Mongoy made the most of an open goal to fire Hanwell further in front.

The rout was complete during injury time when Seth Patrick’s shot was saved by Hungerford keeper, Luke Cairney, who only managed to divert the ball into the path of Ryan Cole who comfortably converted.
