Hanwell Town 3-0 Yate Town

Despite fielding a much changed side from that which had beaten Walton and Hersham earlier in the week, Hanwell Town produced an excellent performance in beating Yate Town 3-0 at The Oliver Connell Stadium.

Yate enjoyed much of the early possession but suffered a blow after twenty minutes when Marlon Jackson had to be substituted after a fierce tackle in midfield. From this point onwards in the first half, Town dominated proceedings and might well have taken the lead when an attempted clearance by the Yate goalkeeper Aaron Sainsbury was blocked by Alfie Pendlebury and the ball rebounded just past the post with the Yate keeper stranded.

Minutes later a good through by Dan Carr opened up the Yate defence to set up a good scoring opportunity for Pendlebury but his rather weak shot was comfortably saved by Sainsbury. However on the half hour mark, Town's Jordy Monguy was pulled back in the penalty area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. Carr stepped up to the spot and made no mistake firing the ball home. Town were now in complete control and should have increased their lead but failed to do so and they were very fortunate that Yate did not equalise when a free kick saw the ball strike the post with Town's keeper and captain Sam Beasant beaten.

In similar fashion to the first half it was Yate who were in command in the early stages of the second half and Town's defence were at full stretch and they looked certain to equalise only for Town player Harry Hoath to make a great defensive tackle. However it was The Geordies who were to find the net again when a long cross by Carr caused confusion at the far post for Yate and the ball rolled loose to Harry Hoath to make a great defensive tackle. However it was The Geordies who were to find the net again when a long cross by Carr caused confusion at the far post for Yate and the ball rolled loose to Monguy who made no mistake from close range. Five minutes later Town were three ahead when Sainsbury failed to clear when well outside his goal area and the ball rebounded to Pendlebury who capped a fine display by steering the ball into the empty net. In the 72nd minute QPR loanee Ridwanullahi Hassan became the first of the five substitutions that Town made before the final whistle replacing Monguy. Just prior to the final whistle in the 96th minutes Yate should have scored a consolation goal when the referee deemed a push by a Hanwell player in the penalty area warranted a penalty kick but Town's keeper and captain Beasant kept a clean sheet diving to his right to turn Lloyd James's spot kick away seconds before the final whistle was blown ending a pleasant week for the Geordies, two games played, six points gained and no goals conceded !!!
