Hanwell Town 1-1 Berkhamsted Town

After a dramatic Charley Barker injury-time equaliser, Berkhamsted salvaged a 1-1 draw against Hanwell Town in their Bank Holiday Monday clash.

On a warm afternoon at The Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium, a disjointed first half ended goalless with few chances created.

The main piece of action came on 19 minutes when a goalmouth scramble in Hanwell’s box resulted in Hanwell’s Taylor Miles limping off after some brave defending.

The game eventually sparked into life in the second half though. Hanwell started much the brighter team and went close right after the break, with Harry Seabrook heading just wide from a corner. And after some clever play from a free-kick, Hanwell did get their noses in front with Jordy Mongoy coolly slotting home from close-range for his second goal of the season.

Berkhamsted gradually grew into the game and on 66 minutes, won a penalty after Dwayne Duncan brought down Matt Bateman in the Hanwell box. Diving to his right though, Sam Beasant pulled off a brilliant save to deny Jonathan Lacey – meaning Beasant is still yet to be beaten from the spot, having saved both penalties that Hanwell have conceded this season.

The final stages of the game saw Berkhamsted pushing for an equaliser and Beasant once again denying Lacey who was through on goal. Hanwell substitute, Gio McGregor, replied by audaciously hitting the post straight from a corner just as the game entered injury time.

But on 94 minutes, Berkhamsted managed to successfully exploit some space on the Hanwell left and were eventually allowed to celebrate after substitute, Charley Barker, fired home.

Speaking right after the match, Hanwell manager, Chris Moore, thought a draw was a “fair result” but that it did “feel like a defeat” given the nature of conceding a late equaliser.
