On a dreadfully hot evening against an excellent Walton & Hersham side fresh from scoring six goals in their defeat of Plymouth Parkway at the weekend, we claimed all three points in a one nil victory before a crowd of 407.
Three words best describe the result in my mind, Grit, Determination and Team Spirit. All empathised by the fact that we only had ten men on the field from the 65th minute after Joe Wilson had received a straight red card after a mistimed tackle from behind that the recipient made sure the referee was fully aware of and also that this was Harry Seabrook's 50th game for the club.
Our side showed two changes from that which had been beaten 1-0 at Poole Town on Saturday with the afore mentioned Joe Wilson replacing Elijah Olandunioje and Taylor Miles replacing Addison Garnett.
Town made an excellent start and should have taken the lead in the tenth minute when a strong run by Garnett put him free on goal but he dragged his shot wide of the far post. At the other end, man of the match Sam Beasant made a great save from Walton's captain Dawid Rogalski who had broken through the middle with a clear run to goal. We took the lead in the 22d minute when from Jordy Mongoy's corner Alfie Pendlebury headed home from close range. Sam made a further save from Rogalski as Walton began to dominate possession in the closing minutes of the half during which we made our first substitution with Edward Cooper coming on to replace Mongoy.
Walton came out after the interval with all guns blazing and that we survived the final forty five minutes without conceding an equaliser is the measure of the enormous effort put in by all concerned. On the hour mark we made our second substitution with Kamaron English replacing Alfie Pendlebury and ten minute's later after Wilson's sending off, Elijah Oladunjoye replaced Jordy Mongoy. The final twenty minutes and then added time saw Walton dominate possession but with all eleven of us working so hard we kept them at bay. We might have scored a second goal when a great run by Oladunjoye from deep in his own half saw him lose possession deep inside the Walton half with just the keeper to beat. We made two further substitutions with Ayo Olukoga replacing Taylor Miles and on loan from QPR Ridwan Hassan replacing earlier substitute Kamaron English.
