Harrow Borough - 20/08/22
Harrow Borough 0 - Hanwell Town 1
Travelling to Harrow Borough after our excellent mid week victory over Chesham United we recorded our third successive league win in a hard fought game in which we were the better side but we were unable to find the back of the Harrow net until the final minutes.
Our side showed one change from that which had beaten Chesham earlier in the week with Kain Adom replacing Dernell Wynter. The opening minutes of the game were very even but it was not until ten minutes had passed before the first shot on goal, a fierce drive from Adam Laaref being comfortably saved by Jacob Knightbridge on loan from West Ham between the posts for the home side.
As the game progressed we began to dominate proceedings and might have taken the lead in the twentieth minute when after a scramble in the Harrow goalmouth the ball ran loose to Isaac Olorunfemie who shot wide. A minute later, Calum Duffy got his head to a cross from Harry Rush but the ball flew just wide of the post with Knightbridge beaten. Harry then tried a speculative free kick from our own half which went over the Harrow crossbar.
Shortly afterwards Connagh Wilks just failed to get his head to another Harry free kick. A long ball from George Nicholas found Adam in space out on the left who cut in before pulling the ball back into the path of Conrad Lucan but he shot wide.
In these final minutes of the half, Adam was on fire creating panic in the Harrow defence every time that he received the ball and Knightbridge beat away a fierce drive from him and then saved well from Harry after Adam had created a shooting chance for our captain.
The half time whistle arrived with the scores still level and us fearing that our lack of finishing ability might come back to haunt us through the second half and we were nearly proved right as in the opening minutes of the half, a free kick from Harrow’s Michael Bryan was headed goalwards by James Taylor and the ball rebounded back of the goal post with Hugo beaten.
Harrow continued in the ascendancy for ten minutes or so but we quickly got back into the game and Knightbridge made a terrific save from a fierce Rush shot and then Calum Duffy headed wide from yet another Rush free kick. At the other end, a shot on the turn by Harrow’s Montel Brown was turned over the bar by Hugo.
In the sixty eighth minute we made our first substitution of the game with new signing Chidubem Onokwai coming on to replace Lucan. Shortly afterwards another new signing Shomari Barnwell replaced Jack Hutchinson who had been tireless in his efforts in midfield.
As the minutes ticked away so play switched from end to end until the 81st minute when Isaac Olorunfemi was the quickest to react in the Harrow penalty area to send the ball across Knightbridge into the far corner of the Harrow net.
Shortly afterwards, Mark Waters replaced Aaref as we looked to hold on to what we had and we were fortunate that in the final minutes of the game, we managed to block a Harrow shot in a goalmouth scramble to deny the home side a share of the points.
